Northern Lights Framed Print
The Alaska Natives have several stories on northern lights. The northern lights dance in the night sky that mystify everyone’s imagination. Children would play out with great awe mesmerized with the colorful display of light. As the means to have them return home, parents would tell their children that the lights will grab them from the sky, and never return. When the color turned red, that meant there would be war or a great negative event, playing kick-the-ball with a skull.
The whistling crackling noise which sometimes accompanied the aurora are the voices of these spirits trying to communicate with the people of the Earth. They should always be answered in a whispering voice. These heavenly spirits were called "sky-dwellers.”
